Site McLain Lake Cabin

“McLain Lake Cabin is a 16' x 18' rustic log cabin located at the southeast end of McLain Lake. Built in the summer of 2004, McLain Lake offers seclusion and good fishing for rainbow trout. Fishing is also possible nearby in the Swanson River in season. This cabin contains two bunk beds, a table with benches, countertop for food preparation, wood stove, splitting maul, crosscut saw, broom, shovel, water bucket, fire extinguisher, rowboat with oars and personal flotation devices, established campfire ring, picnic table, and an outhouse. The use of chainsaws for firewood collection of dead and down trees is permitted. Access to the cabin is by float plane, ski plane, and snowmachine. Contact Refuge Headquarters (907-743-9145) for snowmachine regulations. The Swanson River National Recreational Canoe Trail passes east of the cabin and McLain Lake is accessible by a short hike from the river to the cabin. Area wildlife includes moose, black and brown bears, wolves, small game, and waterfowl. Hunting is allowed for these species in designated seasons. In the winter there is cross-county skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Refer to USGS map Kenai D-2. GPS coordinates: Latitude: 60.858631, Longitude: -150.56925 degrees.”
