OpenCamp is built entirely on open data. Campground listings on OpenCamp combine information from the public sources below, each used under its own license. Where a license requires a specific attribution statement, it's reproduced verbatim.
OpenStreetMap
Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0

Campground, road, and place data, hiking route, bicycle route and Historic US 66 data, the nearby groceries, restaurants, pharmacies and other everyday services on campground pages, and the protected-area boundaries that name the park a Mexican campground sits in. ODbL requires attribution and, for produced works built from substantially the whole database, share-alike on the derived database (not on OpenCamp's own code). See openstreetmap.org/copyright.

Powers the Active wildfires map layer and the wildfire-nearby line on US campground pages. Fires under 5 acres, fully contained fires and prescribed burns are left out. NIFC's disclaimer on the data says: "The information contained in these data is dynamic and may change over time. The data are not better than the original sources from which they were derived." Always follow local fire officials for closures and evacuations.

AirNow

Air quality data provided by AirNow, a partnership of the U.S. EPA, NOAA, NPS, and state/local/tribal agencies.
Powers the air-quality (AQI) search filter. Current AQI readings are matched to the nearest AirNow reporting site within 50km of each campground and refreshed hourly (scripts/ingest/aqi.ts). AirNow data are a U.S. Government work in the public domain.

Province and territory boundaries, used to decide which province a Canadian campground sits in. Credit wording follows the Statistics Canada Open Licence's value-added form (statcan.gc.ca/en/terms-conditions/open-licence), with the product name and reference date from the Boundary Files Reference Guide (catalogue no. 92-160-G). The Open Government Portal lists the files under the Open Government Licence – Canada ("Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada."), while the Reference Guide names the Statistics Canada Open Licence. The two statements disagree and Statistics Canada does not say which prevails, so both credits are shown.
U.S. Census Bureau — Cartographic Boundary Files

Used to name the city or town a US campground is in and to place state lines. The Census Bureau states no credit text; this line names the publisher as it appears on the data.gov record. The data.gov record for the 2023 place file lists CC0 1.0, but other years' records on data.gov list no licence, so the licence for the county subdivision and state files is not independently confirmed.

Recreation.gov (RIDB) — Campground Photos

Photos mirrored from the Recreation Information Database (RIDB) Media export. Each photo displays its original credit and links back to the photo's original URL on Recreation.gov.
RIDB's media credits mix federal agencies with third-party photographers and vendors, and OpenCamp has not been able to confirm a single usage licence that covers all of them, so no licence is shown or claimed for these photos while the terms are being confirmed — only the credit and a link to the original are shown per photo.
Wikimedia Commons & Wikidata — Campground and Park Photos

Photos sourced from Wikimedia Commons, resolved via Wikidata and OpenStreetMap tags. Each photo displays its specific licence, linked to the licence text, alongside a link to its Commons source page.
Only photos under a free licence are accepted: CC0, public domain, CC BY, or CC BY-SA (any version). Non-commercial (NC) and no-derivatives (ND) licences are rejected, as are unrecognized or missing licences. Most photos are matched directly to the campground itself; where a campground has none of its own, a photo of the surrounding park may be shown instead and is captioned with the park's name so it isn't mistaken for a photo of the campground. A campground may also show a Commons photo taken within 1km of it (labelled with its distance, e.g. "Nearby photo · 650 m from this campground") when nothing closer is available; as with every Commons photo, it carries its own licence and a link back to its source.

Once live, photos are shown as submitted — OpenCamp does not assert any licence for them.
