Site Caribou Island Cabin
“Caribou Island Cabin is a historic 14' x 17' log cabin thought to be built in the 1940's and restored in the summer of 2002. Located on the south side of Caribou Island on Tustumena Lake, this cabin offers seclusion, hunting, sightseeing, and wildlife viewing. The cabin contains two bunk beds, a table with benches, countertop for food preparation, wood stove, splitting maul, cross cut saw, broom, shovel, fire extinguisher, an established campfire ring, and an outhouse. Because this cabin is located in designated wilderness, chainsaw use for firewood collection from dead and down trees is prohibited. In the winter there is cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmachining. Contact the Refuge Headquarters (907-743-9145) for snowmachine regulations. Primary access to this cabin is by boat from the Kasilof River Landing, float plane, ski plane, skiing, and snowmachine. Refer to USGS map Kenai A-3. GPS coordinates: Latitude: 60.237805, Longitude: -151.063106.”
